Biography

Guerrillera, Movimiento 26 de Julio. Tireless guerilla leader who was instrumental in the July 26 Movement and the Cuban Revolution. Celia Sánchez served in the general command of the Rebel Army and became an inspirational symbol for women in the Cuban Revolution. Celia displayed great ingenuity in organizing the underground network in Manzanillo that reinforced and supplied the rebels in the Sierra Maestra. She was also widely known and admired for her refusal to receive public honours throughout her career, Celia Sánchez was proclaimed "the most indigenous flower of the revolution" upon her death.
