Comandanta Ramona was a member of the Clandestine Indigenous Revolutionary Committee (CGRI), the leadership body of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN). Comandanta Ramona was one of the key strategic figures in the historic taking of San Cristobal de Las Casas during the initial Zapatista uprising of January 1, 1994.
