Kahlil Gibran

Kahlil was born in Bsharri, formerly part of Ottoman controlled Syria and now modern day Lebanon. After moving to the U.S. with his family, Gibran developed his artistic and writing skills through his various works on national independence. In 1920 he founded a society for Arab writers (al-Mahgar or The Immigrant Poets) in New York. Gibran’s writing centered on topics of spirituality, love and life. Gibran's best-known work, The Prophet: A Book Composed of Twenty-six Poetic Essays, was published in 1923. The Prophet has been translated into over twenty languages and continues to be world-renowned. Gibran is considered to be one of the world’s most popular poets.
