Biography

Hunkpapa Lakota Chief. Sitting Bull led the resistance against the United States and settler encroachment on Sioux territory. Sitting Bull led the Sioux in armed struggle after gold was discovered in the Black Hills in 1876 and the Sioux were forced off their land by the United States military. Displaying prophetic insight of the Sioux Resistance, Sitting Bull and his people claimed a major victory against the forces of Custer's cavalry at the Battle of Little Big Horn, in June of 1876. A spiritual and inspirational leader, Sitting Bull continually called on his people to refuse relinquishment of tribal lands.
